π§ How the Refrigerant Log Records EPA Section 608 Leak Rates
Every maintenance log now includes a Refrigerant Log section that calculates your annual leak rate on the spot, flags EPA Section 608 violations automatically, and stores the data permanently with the service record.
The EPA's AIM Act rule at 40 CFR 84.106 draws the line for commercial and industrial systems: since January 1, 2026, any unit holding 15 or more pounds of an HFC refrigerant with a GWP above 53 falls under the mandatory leak-repair program. The older Section 608 rules at 40 CFR Part 82 still govern the ozone-depleting refrigerants like R-22, where the line is 50 pounds. If that system's leak rate exceeds the statutory thresholdβ10% for comfort cooling, 20% for commercial refrigeration, or 30% for industrial process refrigeration (IPR)βthe leak has to be located and repaired within 30 days of the refrigerant addition that revealed it, and that clock starts on the date of the charge, not the date someone gets around to filing paperwork.
The math is not complicated β pounds added divided by full charge, times 365 divided by the days since the last addition, times 100 (or use our free online leak-rate calculator). But in the field, on a rooftop or in a mechanical room with a full schedule, that calculation never gets done because there is no structured place to record it. How the Refrigerant Log Works

Which Threshold Applies to Your Equipment?
The trigger rate depends on the appliance class β 10% for comfort cooling, 20% for commercial refrigeration, 30% for industrial process refrigeration, applied to systems of 15 lbs or more. If a comfort cooling system holds 100 lbs of R-410A and you add 12 lbs a year after the last charge, that annualizes to 12% β above the 10% threshold, which starts the 30-day repair clock. Add the same 12 lbs six months after the last charge and it annualizes to 24%.
R-22 and the Phase-Out
The refrigerant log is particularly important for R-22 systems, which are no longer manufactured in the United States. With R-22 supply shrinking and prices high, any significant leak on an R-22 system is both a compliance issue and a financial one. Documenting each addition creates the paper trail that supports the case for system replacement when the math stops making sense.

Where in the app do I record a refrigerant addition?
